This project was particularly challenging due to the nature of the materials involved. Most of the steelwork, platework, handrailing, and flooring components were existing materials purchased by the client from a mine in South Africa years before the project commenced. These components had been stored in a laydown area for many years. Hogarths installed the existing steel and platework in their unpainted state as supplied. To expedite the project, the client decided to install these components as is, with the painting to be carried out later.
There were no marked-up drawings to guide the erection process. Steelwork marks were incorrect, and many steel members required site fabrication. Additionally, the flooring and handrailing had no markings at all. Despite these difficulties, Hogarths successfully erected the plant and brought it into working condition, as evidenced by the pictures.
